Why the Red Drawbridge stays still
The Red Drawbridge is often the first point where a new group feels stuck. The four reward slots can make it look as though the bridge should immediately activate. But the rewards only begin the key sequence; they do not give you the finished key by themselves.
If all four red items are in place and nothing changes, do not repeat the opening puzzles. Check the key-making step instead.
Red Drawbridge key steps
- Finish the four initial starting-island puzzles. Each one gives a matching red reward item.
- Place all four red items in the drawbridge slots. Check that each slot is filled before moving on.
- Use the key-cutting action. This is the step many groups miss. Cutting turns the collected result into the key that can actually unlock the route.
- Take the completed key to the drawbridge mechanism. Use it to open the path from the starting island into the main world.
Quick checklist before you restart
- All four opening puzzles are complete.
- All four corresponding red rewards are in their slots.
- The group has looked for and used the key-cutting step.
- You are trying to use the completed key, not only the four placed rewards.
Only go back to an earlier puzzle if an item is genuinely missing. In most cases, the blocked bridge means the key has not been cut yet.
Spoiler-light group tip
Keep one teammate near the bridge while another checks the key step. That makes it easier to confirm what changed and prevents the group from scattering across the starting island. This puzzle is a good early example of Big Walk’s pattern: collecting objects and activating the next mechanism are separate cooperative tasks.
Red Drawbridge FAQ
I placed four items in the bridge. Why does nothing happen?
The four red rewards are a prerequisite, not the final key. Complete the key-cutting action next.
Do I have to redo all four puzzles?
No, not if every matching red reward is already in place. Check for the missed key-cutting step first.
What does the Red Drawbridge unlock?
It opens the route out of the starting island and into the main world.
